The winter recruitment period is always a period of significant rumour and potential major transfers. Several notable players are being linked with transfers away from their current clubs. This article explores a selection of the major figures that are poised to be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward available, it appears a significant move is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract featuring a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest developments suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his services. Other interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has continued to impress for Palace this season a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. With his deal due to expire in the summer, January is the club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite sides, such as Manchester City and several continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has found first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun only a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, while his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he is a potential bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça following the coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January exit seems increasingly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that move currently seems off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This proven England striker has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading chances of making the national World Cup. However, arranging a deal poses significant challenges. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his reported huge weekly wages render any move difficult. This exciting Turkey attacker has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. With his existing contract nearing its end, many Premier League sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of the continent's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
